Don't Play It Safe

“Better play it safe” is something your friend or your mom says to you while you’re considering doing something you’ve never done before. Maybe it’s white water rafting

The people of Israel we’re so used to captivity that many of them didn’t even know if they wanted to leave! Did you know that you can get so used to “bad” that you don’t even recognize what “good” could be? Sure we like to think that when Moses and Aaron gave them the good news that Pharaoh finally conceded that they just went along smiling and excited. But that simply can’t be true. We have to admit that many of them were terrified…

“What if we can’t find food? There’s three million of us, Moses! Even if we did find food, how are we all going to eat? We’ll starve to death in the desert! Everything we know is here!”

Can you hear Moses’ response?

While everything you know is here, everything better is on the other side of faith.! I know it’s scary, but listen! Did you forget the promise made to our ancestor Abraham? God wants us, HIS people, to live in a land that is PROMISED to us! It’s gonna be incredible! But you gotta get up, get your things and go to get there!”

“Moses, we better play it safe.”

What you call safe, I call bondage. You’ve gotten used to your slavery and apathy and as long as Pharaoh feeds you, you’ll serve him forever. God is calling us higher and you know it. Join us! The promise must be received!

If we’re not careful we can be just like those jewish people who were hesitant to trust God and say “yes” in faith and obedience to the promises of God. Maybe you have an addiction that you KNOW is controlling you. Sure it’s God that delivers you but you gotta do your part and remove the thing from your reach - remove the friends that lead you down that path. Maybe you have a call of God on your life but you’re waiting for God to step in. What if He’s waiting on you?

Galations 3:14 The redeeming work of Jesus was “in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.” Later he says “By faith you are children according to the promise.”

So don’t play it safe! God is nudging you to start a ministry? Start it! God is nudging you to enter ministry? Start classes! Talk to your pastor! Go! Get up. Get your things and go! God is nudging you to cancel some entertainment subscriptions to deepen your walk and time in prayer? Do it! Don’t wait another day! God is nudging you to witness to your neighbor. But what if they don’t talk to me anymore and think I’m odd Why is your brain automatically going to the possible negative outcome? What if God’s Spirit invades that moment, they repent of their sin and become a child of God? What joy would you feel that God used you to change someone’s eternity? Don’t play it safe. Don’t do what you’ve always done! Start the business. Get the loan. Get a plan. Walk across the street. Faith is spelled R.I.S.K.
